A video has been doing the rounds where the two actors can be seen making their way to the Oscar stage where they start off by giving a shoutout to Angela Bassett. Jordan said ‘Hey Auntie…’, while Majors added ‘We love you ..’
For the unversed, this happened after Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress Angela Bassett lost out at Oscars 2023 for Best Supporting Actress to Jamie Lee Curtis for Everything Everywhere All At Once. She was visibly disappointed, which came to everyone’s notice.
Fans disappointed
However, fans were unhappy with Oscars overlooking Bassett for Curtis at the awards. Bassett an early favourite was sure to win in the Best Supporting Actress category. One person said, “Michael B. Jordan with a thoughtful and brilliant acknowledgement,” while a second said, “Not cool! Jamie Lee Curtis was great in her role! Angela tends to get terrific parts and will have another chance. She will definitely get a lifetime achievement Oscar. Don’t spoil it for Jamie.”
A third person commented, “Yes. And I know Angela Bassett felt that, too. I’m still watching the ceremony, but I don’t know why I feel like all the black people in the room have kind of had the wind let out of their sails. Even Samuel L. Jackson does not seem as jovial in his presentation. #Oscars,” while a fourth stated, “I saw both films. Bassett’s character played a more important part to the story than Curtis’ character. And she had more screen time. Bassett was a borderline lead actress along with Shuri in the 1st half of the movie. Angela SHOULD have won. She was robbed. Again. Shame.”
Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominees
Angela Bassett was nominated for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, alongside Hang Chau for The Whale, Kerry Condon for The Banshees of Inisherin, Stephanie Hsu for Everything Everywhere All at Once and Jame Lee Curtis for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
