Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal hit out at Madhya Pradesh minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia’s remarks on rising prices, saying that the BJP-led Central government does not think about poor people.

Sisodia, who is Labour Minister in BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government, kicked up a controversy by saying that people should not complain about the rising prices as their income has also increased.

Responding to the minister’s remarks, Sibal said, “BJP minister said income has increased but only their income increased not of the public. Fuel, LPG prices have increased.”

“They don’t think about poor people only do politics of religion. I hope people will throw out this government and starts it by defeating them in Uttar Pradesh 2022 polls,” he added.

Addressing a press conference in Indore, the BJP leader had claimed that the Centre can’t give everything to people free of cost.

“Hasn’t the income of the common man increased in these past few years? If that is fine, then you have to accept rising prices too. Government can’t give everything for free because this is how the government collects revenue. All developmental programmes are run like this…,” Sisodia had said.

“10 years ago you were earning Rs 6,000 and today you are earning Rs 50,000 and still you want petrol and diesel at the same rate as it was earlier, this is not possible at all… I want to ask you which section has not seen a rise in income?” he added.

There has been a sharp rise in prices of essential commodities rise in recent months particularly that of fuel and edible oils.

Last month, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli defended the rise in fuel prices across the country and said that people in the country are receiving free COVID-19 vaccines because of the taxes levied on diesel and petrol.
