One of India’s most respected industrialists Ratan Tata took to social media on Saturday on the occasion of World Environment Day to share how creating an environment with fresh air, clean water and nutritious food should be a priority for everyone.
Tata Group’s Chairman emeritus took to Instagram and Twitter to share a post expressing how everyone should pledge to create a better Indian environment. His post has since gone viral and prompted many to post appreciative replies
The Octagenarian shared an image on both social media platforms with a few lines written on it. “To create an Indian environment with fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, nutritious food with no one left hungry, and a way to care for everyone’s health, should be the priority for you and me on this environment day,” reads the lines on the image shared by the industrialist.
Since being shared a little over two hours ago, the Instagram post has gathered more than 4.4 million likes – and the numbers are quickly increasing. It has also accumulated several comments. Many wrote how they pledge to create a better environment. The tweet, on the other hand, has gathered over 1,000 replies, 9.5K retweets and 57.4 thousand likes.
For the uninitiated, World Environment Day is observed globally on June 5 every year. It is celebrated to mark the importance of nature and the environment and it also gives out a message to the global population that nature should not be undervalued and it should not be taken for granted at any cost.
The United Nations Assembly established World Environment Day in 1972 after discussions on environment-related issues during the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The day was first observed two years later in 1974 in the US.
The theme of the first World Environment Day was ‘Only One Earth’. In 1987, the idea of rotating the centre of these activities started so that different countries can get the opportunity to host the event. Since then, the event is celebrated by different host countries.
The event is celebrated across the globe to spread awareness about the need and significance of nature and frondescence. On this day, governments and normal citizens of various countries and states emphasise a particular environmental issue to generate mass awareness.
The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. The global host for the big day will be Pakistan. On Wednesday, Pakistan kick-started the event with a cycling event to generate awareness regarding ecosystem restoration. Furthermore, this year the day will also witness the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
