Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh recently triggered a political debate after he praised the BJP and RSS. His remarks, in favour of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the saffron party, have exposed cracks within the grand old Congress party. The fresh row has raised questions over unity among the senior leadership.
‘Nothing to learn’: Pawan Khera hits back on Digvijaya Singh’s remarks
Reacting to the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s remarks, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera on Sunday slammed RSS as an organisation known for Godse. “There’s nothing to learn from the RSS. What can an organisation known for Godse teach an organisation founded by Gandhi?” Khera said. Meanwhile, Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “We don’t have anything to learn from them. We oppose their (RSS) ideology.”
What did Digvijaya Singh say?
Earlier on Saturday, Digvijay sparked controversy through an online post, stating that the BJP-RSS allows grassroots workers to reach top posts like CM and PM and grow within the organisation. He shared a black-and-white photograph from the 1990s that showed young Prime Minister Narendra Modi seated back on the floor next to BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani, who sat on a chair at the event in Gujarat.
“I found this picture on the Quora site. It is very impressive. In what way did the grassroots swayamsevak of RSS and the worker of Jan Sangh @BJP4India sit on the floor at the feet of leaders and become the Chief Minister of the state and the Prime Minister of the country? This is the power of the organisation. Jai Siya Ram,” he said in a post on X. Singh’s remarks have sparked speculations about internal conflict within the Congress party due to his appreciation of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organisational strength.
BJP targets Congress for running party in ‘dictatorial manner’
Digvijaya Singh also tagged Jairam Ramesh, Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other Congress leaders in his post. Shortly after, BJP leader CR Kesavan targeted Congress for running the party in a ‘dictatorial manner’.
“Totally exposed how the Congress first family ruthlessly runs the party in a dictatorial manner and also how autocratic and undemocratic this Congress leadership is,” he said.
