After deleting their controversial post on Twitter, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has put a new message which congratulates ‘all South Africans’ who played a part in Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) triumph at the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). 

Earlier, CSK faced huge backlash on Twitter for only congratulating Lungi Ngidi in a post complimenting CSK for winning the IPL trophy for the fourth time. Many prominent figures across the cricket fraternity slammed them for ignoring Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir. Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn was among those who reacted angrily to the post. 

Steyn commented on the post, “Who’s running this account? Last I checked Faf isn’t even retired, Imran isn’t retired, both these guys have given years of service to CSA and they were not worth a mention? Disgusting,”

After deleting the post from all channels, CSA put out a new tweet that congratulated every South African involved in the victory and gave special credit to Faf du Plessis for his match-winning effort in the final. 

CSK wrote, “Congratulations to all the South Africans who competed in and claimed victory in the 2021 IPL Final with Chennai Super Kings. Notably Faf du Plessis who put in a Man of the match performance.”

du Plessis scored 86 runs in 59 balls in the IPL final against Kolkata Knight Riders to help CSK win the title. He featured in all of CSK’s 16 games this season in which he scored 633 runs at a stunning average of 45.21. In fact, the former South African captain missed out on the orange cap by just two runs to opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad. 

Ngidi featured in 3 games for CSK this season in which he took five wickets. Meanwhile, Tahir played just one game and scalped two wickets. Both did not play a single game in the UAE leg. 

Both du Plessis and Tahir are not part of the South African team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Ngidi will feature in the competition for Proteas as they hope to win the competition for the first time.
