Riyan Parag’s RR Homegrown Talent
Riyan Parag has remained a constant figure for the Rajasthan Royals since his tournament debut in 2019, dedicating all seven of his professional seasons to the franchise. During the previous year, he stepped into a leadership role for a brief period of eight matches while Sanju Samson recovered from an injury. Although the team struggled during this interval with a record of two victories and six defeats on their way to a ninth place finish, Parag excelled individually. He maintained a batting average of 38.57 during those eight games and notably recorded his career high score of 95 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
His overall statistical record in the league now spans 84 appearances, during which he has accumulated 1566 runs while maintaining a strike rate of 141.84. His most prolific period occurred in 2024 when he scored 573 runs with a strike rate of 149.21. In the most recent season, Parag significantly increased his scoring pace to a strike rate of 166.52, though his total run count decreased to 393 and featured a single half century.
The franchise is currently undergoing a total structural transformation. With the departure of Rahul Dravid as head coach following the 2025 season, the Rajasthan Royals are set to begin the 2026 campaign with an entirely new management duo. Kumar Sangakkara is prepared to take charge of the coaching staff alongside Parag, marking the beginning of a significant fresh chapter for the team.
This transition comes at a time when the team is looking to rebound from their ninth place finish. The combination of Parag’s long term loyalty to the Royals and Sangakkara’s legendary experience is expected to define the team’s identity as they move away from the Samson-Dravid era.
