Not John Cena! Another WWE legend likely to face Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2022

WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns hasn’t defended any of his titles since defeating Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 38 and he isn’t slated to defend the championship at a premium live event until SummerSlam 2022. The Head of the Table hasn’t even been on television for two weeks now.
He wasn’t at Hell in a Cell and isn’t on the poster for Money in the Bank as well. As per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Reigns is likely to defend his title at SummerSlam, which is scheduled to take place on 30th July 2022.
As per Meltzer, Randy Orton will square off against Reigns at the Biggest Party of the Summer. Riddle has been teasing a match against Reigns but that match might not take place at a premium live event, the report adds.
“July 30. He may actually wrestle on TV before that, but July 30 is his first pay-per-view championship match. He may do a television match before then. If he wrestles Riddle, it’ll be on TV. It won’t be on pay-per-view. At least that’s the plan right now. The plan is still Orton for July 30. Obviously, they were building up the Riddle and Reigns match on Monday. I’m presuming they’re going to do it. I was told it would not be a pay-per-view match if they do it and it’s not 100% that they will. You would think that they will so that would lead me to believe it’d be a TV match,” Meltzer reported.
It also confirms that John Cena won’t be facing Reigns for 2nd year in a row. The WWE legend has been announced to make his WWE return on June 27 on Raw. The last time he made his return, Cena faced Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam 2021. While nothing is confirmed, Cena is likely to be involved in a storyline against United States Champion, Theory. Their match might take place at SummerSlam 2022.
As for Reigns, he is confirmed to defend his titles at Clash at the Castle. The event will take place on September 3 in Cardiff.
