In an update not many saw coming, Ravindra Jadeja stepped down from the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) just eight matches after taking over the role. Four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winning captain MS Dhoni will return to lead the side from their clash vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday in Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium.
In a statement put up by the franchise, CSK revealed that Jadeja has decided to step down from the role and requested Dhoni to take charge again. “Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” said official statement by the defending champions.
Dhoni had led the franchise in every season from 2008 and helped them win the title four times in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. Jadeja and Dhoni were retained for Rs. 16 and Rs. 12 crore respectively ahead of the 2022 mega-auction.
