Union minister Nitin Gadkari’s office in Nagpur in Maharashtra received threat calls. The unidentified caller made the call on the landline number of Gadkari’s Public Relations office in Khamla area and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore.
Earlier in January, similar threatening calls were made at Nitin Gadkari’s residence and office by a person who claimed to be a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang and demanded Rs 100 crore.
Three threat calls were received on the landline number of Gadkari’s PR office on January 14 between 11.25 am to 12.30 pm, following which security was stepped up at the home and office of the Nagpur MP who belongs to the BJP. The caller, identified as Jayesh Pujari, threatened to harm the minister with a bomb if his demand is not met.
Following a probe, it was revealed that the caller is an inmate of the Hindalga jail and was sentenced to death by a court in a murder case in the past. The call was made from the prison.
In a separate incident, a man has been booked by the Nagpur police for allegedly posting offensive comments on social media which had references to Gadkari. The cyber cell of Nagpur Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act against the accused.
The accused, Dattatray Joshi, allegedly made certain references to Gadkari in the posts which were circulated on WhatsApp, PTI reported.
