In a big development in Bihar politics, Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, officially joined the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) on Sunday. His entry into the party marks an major political shift and has sparked discussions about the future leadership of the state.
Nishant Kumar joined the party at the JD(U) office in Patna, where he was welcomed by party workers and senior leaders. JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha was also present during the event. After taking party membership, Nishant Kumar addressed party workers and expressed gratitude for the support he received.
He praised his father, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, for his contributions to the development of Bihar over the last two decades. Nishant said he would try to live up to the trust placed in him by party workers and the people. He added that both the people of Bihar and the country are proud of the work done by his father in the past 20 years.
Nishant Kumar’s Political Debut
Several leaders welcomed Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics. Union Minister and NDA’s Rajya Sabha candidate Ram Nath Thakur said Nishant joined the party to stay connected with the people and listen to their concerns. According to him, party workers and the public wanted Nishant Kumar to take on a political role.
Bihar minister Ratnesh Sada described Nishant Kumar as the “future of Bihar” and expressed confidence that he would carry forward the development work started by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Leadership Transition in Bihar
Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics comes at a time when Nitish Kumar is preparing to move to the Rajya Sabha. On March 5, the Chief Minister filed his nomination for the Upper House, signalling the end of his long tenure as Bihar’s Chief Minister.
Before the announcement, Nishant Kumar had also held a meeting with senior JD(U) leaders and young MLAs at the residence of Sanjay Kumar Jha to discuss the party’s future strategy.
