Violence and protests continue to wreak havoc in a conflict-hit Manipur resulting in the death of one individual and injury of another on Sunday. Tension escalated in the state’s valley areas after security forces reportedly opened fire in Jiribam district killing a 20-year-old man to disperse the crowd. The incident reportedly occurred around 11 pm at Babupara.
National Investigation Agency has taken over three cases linked to the violence leading to the loss of lives and disruption in public order in Manipur. The agency took over these cases from Manipur Police following a recent order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The first case happened on November 8, 2024, when a woman was murdered by heavily armed militants at the Jiribam Police Station in the region of Jiribam.
The latest move comes after the state government imposed a curfew in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur districts from 4:30 pm following intensified violence. Internet and mobile data services were also suspended in several districts including Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur.
