Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has revealed the new Vande Bharat sleeper train, set to launch in the coming months. This train, built by BEML on the Vande Bharat platform, offers superior passenger amenities, speed, and safety compared to Rajdhani Express trains. Curious about its appearance and interiors? The Vande Bharat sleeper train will operate at a maximum speed of 160 kmph, with a testing speed of 180 kmph. As a self-propelled train, it can accelerate and decelerate faster, which will increase its average speed compared to the Rajdhani Express.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: A 16-Coach Luxury Experience
The Vande Bharat sleeper train prototype will consist of 16 coaches, including 11 AC 3-tier coaches with 611 berths, 4 AC 2-tier coaches with 188 berths, and 1 AC First Class coach with 24 berths.
The Vande Bharat sleeper train, developed by Indian Railways and BEML, features world-class amenities and represents a significant advancement in India’s rail capabilities, offering a passenger experience comparable to European standards.
The train boasts top-notch interiors with GFRP panels, automatic exterior passenger doors, sensor-based intercommunication doors, an ergonomically designed odor-free toilet system, modern passenger facilities, and a spacious luggage area.
Passenger-friendly features include integrated reading lights with USB charging, special berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers, modular pantries, public announcement and visual information systems, interior display panels, security cameras, and hot water showers in the AC First Class coach.
Comfort, Safety, And Faster Overnight Travel
The sleeper train offers enhanced berth comfort with extra cushioning and redesigned ladders for easier access to upper berths.
For safety, the train is equipped with advanced crashworthy elements, including specially designed crash buffers and couplers, and all materials meet the highest fire safety standards.
Passengers will enjoy smooth, jerk-free rides with fully sealed gangways that provide a dust-free environment and better air conditioning. The train will undergo extensive testing before its official launch.
Indian Railways aims to revolutionize overnight travel with the Vande Bharat sleeper train, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time on key routes like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata. However, the specific routes for the train have yet to be finalized.
