After the disappointing loss in the rescheduled fifth Test Match against England, Team India had a big turn in fortunes in the T20I series against the Three Lions. They won the three-match series 2-1, having won the series in the first two matches itself. This was the seventh straight T20I series win under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, and a great precursor for the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, Virat Kohli’s form has been a major concern.Kohli failed to create any mark with the bat. In the two T20I matches, the former Indian captain scored just 12 runs. In the first match he scored just one runs, while in the second T20I he got out on 11 runs. His poor form with the bat looks to have affected his fielding too, as was evident in the final T20I game.
On the first ball of the 19th over in the England innings, Liam Livingstone who was then batting at 36 skied a ball off Harshal Patel to Virat Kohli who was standing at deep mid-wicket. One of the best fielders in the world, Kohli looked set to take what was an easy catch. However, the ex-Indian captain dropped the catch, catching many off guard.
Former India leg-spinner and Kohli’s ex-teammate Amit Mishra tweeted that he was surprised to see Virat Kohli of all people, miss a catch, as he doesn’t even drop a catch in the nets.
Never saw Virat Kohli dropping a catch even in the nets. He is a class player and today or tomorrow his form will return. He should not take this added pressure. #EngvsInd,” he tweeted.
After the dropped chance, Livingstone went on to score 42 runs and help England achieve a humongous score of 215. Though Suryakumar Yadav scored a brilliant 117, India failed to chase down the score, losing by 17 runs.
