Mumbai: No COVID vaccination at centres run by civic body today, says BMC

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that the coronavirus vaccination centres run by Mumbai’s civic body will be shut on Sunday. This comes amid the country is facing an acute shortage of vaccine doses.

Taking to Twitter,  the BMC said the details regarding vaccination on Monday will be shared today by them.

“Dear Mumbaikars. There will be no vaccination at any of the centres tomorrow. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. The details for Monday will be shared tomorrow by this handle & the respective wards too,” the civic body tweeted.

On Saturday, as many as 1,299 new COVID infections and 52 more deaths were reported in Mumbai. The fresh cases pushed the overall tally to 6,96,379, while the death toll has mounted to 14,574 after more people succumbed to the deadly disease, as per the health department’s latest bulletin.

According to an official, 1,827 people were discharged from hospitals, taking the recovery count in the metropolis to 6,51,216, which is 93 per cent of the caseload.

“A total of 60,48,686 coronavirus tests have been conducted so far, including 29,264 during the day. The time taken for the tally to double has reached 326 days. The city currently has 62 containment zones and 246 buildings are sealed,” the official said. 

‘18.49 cr vaccine doses administered in India’

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has informed that the nationwide cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 19.49 crores. Nearly and crore beneficiaries of age group 18-44 vaccinated so far. More than 15.5 lakh doses administered on Saturday till 8 pm.
