MS Dhoni’s dropping percentage was 21: Rashid Latif makes surprising remark on India legend’s keeping

Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has made a glaring remark at India legend MS Dhoni. The Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batter is widely recognised as one of the finest to ever play the game. Yet, Latif doesn’t feel Dhoni was as good a wicket-keeper as he is perceived.
Dhoni didn’t have the most traditional form of wicket-keeping. Yet, he holds some of the finest records in the game for a stumper. His ability to assist the bowlers in plotting the dismissals of batters, coupled with lighting quick glove-work behind the stumps, made him a superstar. But, Latif isn’t on board with the general public sentiment.
Speaking in a video on YouTube channel “Caught Behind”, Latif said that Dhoni’s dropping percentage as a wicket-keeper was a whopping 21. The former Pakistan didn’t delve into the details about the stats he came up with or his idea behind such a claim.
Latif also feels that ‘stats’ do not justify the keepers of his era and previous era did. “You can’t use my record because this particular record came into being from 2002 or 2003. We had already played by then,” he further said.
As far as naming the best wicket-keeper of the past 10-15 years is concerned, Latif picked South Africa’s Quinton de Kock as his No. 1 choice.
“Adam Gilchrist had percentage of only 11, Mark Boucher was very good. Australia’s Tim Paine started well but, towards the end, dropped a lot of catches. “If you look at the best in last 15 years, then I would say Quinton de Kock is superb, has kept in all three formats and batted at the top of the order in white ball cricket,” Latif opined.
Dhoni retired as one of the finest wicket-keeper batters to ever play the game. Be it his achievements as a captain, a batter or a wicket-keeper, Dhoni has inspired many emerging cricketers over the years.
