Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni was seen giving wicketkeeping lessons to Indian southpaw Rishabh Pant as Team India continued their preparations for the ongoing ICC World T20 2021 on Wednesday. One of the most celebrated cricketers in world cricket, former Team India captain Dhoni was earlier roped in as the mentor of the Virat Kohli-led Team India side for the T20 World Cup.
The 40-year-old had joined the Team India camp after guiding Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fourth title in the India Premier League (IPL). Dhoni was seen imparting wisdom to Indian wicket-keeper batsman Pant when India squared off against Australia in their second and final warm-up match at the ICC Academy Ground on Wednesday.
During the friendly match between India and Australia, the Indian think tank opted to hand Ishan Kishan the wicketkeeper duties for the practice game. Pant, who played no role in India’s friendly meeting with Australia, received some keeping tips from the legendary wicketkeeper on the sidelines in Dubai. When India’s friendly encounter with Australia was halted for a few minutes in the wake of sightscreen issues at the match venue, the cameras spotted Dhoni fine-tuning Pant’s wicketkeeping skills at the ICC Academy Ground
Pant, who was replaced by Kishan in the second warm-up game, had played a small cameo against England on Monday. Pant remained unbeaten on 29 off 14 balls to help India upstage England in their first warm-up match at the same venue. Talking about India’s second warm-up match against Australia, Rohit Sharma & Co. registered a comfortable win over the Aaron Finch-led side.
Leading Team India in the absence of skipper Kohli, opener Rohit led the Men In Blue from the front and slammed a match-winning 60 off 41 balls. Team India will open their campaign with the opener against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. Former champions India and Pakistan will lock horns at the Dubai International Stadium.
