All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi took a funny dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government by telling a joke to take a swipe at the promise of generating two crore jobs.
Addressing a gathering in Gujarat’s Danilimda assembly constituency, Owaisi said that he met a young boy in a hotel where he explained his current situation through a joke.
Main jis ladki se shaadi karna chahta hun, usne mujhse aa kar kaha ki ‘aapki sarkari naukri kab lagegi, papa ladka dhund rahe hain”. (The girl I want to marry came to me and asked, “when will you get a government job, my father is looking for (another) boy,” Owaisi quoted the man as saying.
“The boy replied, ‘Modi sarkar par bharosa mat karo, tum shaadi kar lo.” (Don’t trust Modi government, you please get married (to someone else)),” he added, while the crowd cheered and laughed.
However, Owaisi clarified that it was a joke and not a true incident. He told the joke to take a swipe at the promise of two crore jobs made by PM Modi. The AIMIM chief said that PM Modi had promised two crore jobs every year but has backtracked from it.
“In the last eight years, 16 crore jobs should have been created. But now PM Modi is saying he will provide only 10 lakh jobs till 2024,” Owaisi said.
The AIMIM will be contesting 14 assembly seats in the upcoming Gujarat elections, said the party’s state president Sabir Kabliwala. This is the first time that the party will be contesting in the state.
Currently, the party’s presence is limited to only 26 local body seats. AIMIM is believed to be concentrating on Muslim and Dalit votes, a base that the Congress also heavily relies on.
AIMIM has fielded its Dalit face, Kaushika Parmar, from Danilimda seat which has been reserved for Schedule Castes.
