Satvik Sethi, Mastercard’s product lead for NFTs, has resigned from the company complaining that he experienced harassment, emotional anguish and had long felt neglected at the global payments and credit card major.
In a series of tweets, he also mentioned about the company’s inefficiencies as one of the reason for leaving. He claimed that he had to go through emotional anguish at Mastercard due to a number of poorly managed processes, miscommunications and internal inefficiencies.
Sethi also recalled how he had to grapple with even salary issues during his stint at Mastercard.
“Among many other problems, there were times when I wouldn’t get paid for months at a time unless I petitioned across the hierarchy for it.”
Sethi claimed that he had to serve a three-month notice before leaving the company and added that in fact it was an attempt to prevent him from quitting when he informed the HR department about his problems.
Sethi, who did not reveal how much he was paid, recollected his time in London in bleak terms. “At Mastercard, I was a victim of harassment & emotional distress caused by a series of mismanaged processes, miscommunication, internal inefficiency,” he wrote. “I had to work side jobs this past year to make ends meet, alongside all the things I was building and contributing in Web3.”
“They might attempt to cast me in doubt or minimise my contributions. But the truth is that everywhere in the world, our clients, regional teams, and partners associate me with Mastercard and NFTs,” he added.
Sethi made his resignation letter a non-fungible token that the public can mint for 0.023 ether, or about $38, netting him $3,610 from 95 supporters.
On Sethi’s resignation, MasterCard is yet to issue a statement.
