Marathi singer Ashok Niklaje has been duped of Rs 2.5 lakh by two fraudsters, who pretend to be policemen. The fraudsters promised him an invitation to a high-profile musical event as a guest and one of them even posed as an IPS officer.
According to the reports, an FIR has been registered at the Tilak Nagar police station and the investigation is currently underway.
As per an official, it took over a month and several phone calls. One of the fraudsters who posed as an IPS officer first called Niklaje on October 14 and told him that he wanted to invite him to a musical event that was to be held soon. The accused then promised the singer to pay him Rs 8 lakh for his appearance at the show.
The official further said that a few days later after the first call, the singer received another call from a person who claimed to be a junior officer. He told Niklaje that he would have to make a payment of Rs 2.5 lakh for security after which the fee of Rs 8 lakh will be paid to him for his appearance at the show.
