Hours after BJP leader Babul Supriyo joined the Trinamool Congress, Kunal Ghosh said many leaders from the saffron party are in communication with Mamata Banerjee’s party.
Many BJP leaders are in communication with TMC leadership as they are not satisfied with BJP, he added.
“One (Babul Supriyo) joined today, another wants to join tomorrow. This process will go on. Wait and watch,” he said.
Former Union Minister and ex-BJP MP had quit the BJP following the recent Union Cabinet reshuffle. He joined the Trinamool family in the presence of National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien.
Welcoming him into the party fold, TMC said, “We take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to him.”
“Didi and Abhishek have given me a great opportunity. As I have joined TMC, there is no point in holding on to my seat in Asansol. I have come into politics because of Asansol. I will do for that constituency as much as possible,” said Supriyo.
Last month, Supriyo had announced he will continue to work constitutionally as a Member of Parliament but has withdrawn himself from active politics.
Talking to the media after joining the TMC, Supriyo said he is very excited and will work for the development of Bengal.
“Didi and Abhishek have given me a great opportunity. As I have joined TMC, there is no point in holding on to my seat in Asansol. I have come into politics because of Asansol. I will do for that constituency as much as possible,” said Supriyo.
When asked that why he joined the TMC after saying he would quit politics, Supriyo said, “I meant it from my heart when I said I will leave politics. However, I felt there was a huge opportunity that was entrusted upon me on joining TMC.”
All my friends said my decision to leave politics was wrong and emotional, he added.
Ahead of West Bengal polls, the BJP welcomed those jumping ship, however, after its loss in the state, many leaders from the BJP started joining the TMC.
