Manik Saha will continue as the Chief Minister of Tripura, top sources told amid speculations that he could be replaced. A section of the newly elected MLAs were in favour of his replacement by Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, who has been elected as an MLA in the just concluded elections.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP-IPFT government in Tripura will be held on March 8. The oath-taking ceremony of the new government will be held at Vivekananda ground in Agartala.
“Chief Secretary S K Sinha is holding a meeting with senior officials regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to the state. An SPG team is also arriving today. The Prime Minister is coming to attend the oath taking ceremony of the new government on March 8″, PTI report said
On Friday, Chief Minister Manik Saha tendered the resignation of his government to Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya.
BJP wins Tripura
Tripura, which went to polls on February 16, registered a massive voter turnout of 87.6 percent in the election. The results were announced on March 2. The BJP won 32 seats, leaving one to its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) while the TIPRA Motha, a regional party, emerged as the main Opposition by securing 13 seats and the CP(M)-Congress combine got 11 and 3 seats respectively.
A day after the victory, chief minister Manik Saha tendered his resignation to governor Satyadeo Narain Arya but did not stake claim to forming the next government. “I submitted my resignation to Governor Arya. He accepted my resignation and asked me to continue as chief minister till the new government is formed,” said Saha.
