Madhuri Dixit Nene’s mother Snehlata Dixit passed away this morning at 8:40 am. She was 91. Her cremation will reportedly take place at 3 pm today at a crematorium in Worli. The cause of her death is yet to be revealed.
Madhuri Dixit and her husband Shriram Nene shared the news in a joint statement. “Our beloved Aai, Snehalata Dikshit, passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by her loved ones,” the statement read.
The actress had lost her father, Shankar R. Dixit, in 2013. He passed away after illness on September at the age of 91.
Madhuri Dixit’s bond with mother
The actor has often spoken about her bond with her mother. She once revealed how her mother’s behaviour towards her never changed even after she became a successful actor and she would scold her if her room was messed up. Madhuri had said, “I mean, even when I was working in films, my mom used to scold me if my room was messed up and things like that. So that’s how I was brought up. And that’s how I am.”
Last year, on her mother’s 90th birthday, Madhuri Dixit had penned a loving note on social media. “Happy Birthday, Aai! They say a mother is a daughter’s bestfriend. They couldn’t be any more right. From everything that you’ve done for me, the lessons that you’ve taught have been the biggest gift for me from you. I wish you only good health & happiness!” Madhuri had penned, along with rare and unseen pictures of her mother.
In 2018, Madhuri Dixit sang a song for the first time and she was joined by her mother. Madhuri’s mother, Snehlata Dixit, was a trained classical singer. The folk song titled Rangi Sari Gulaabi Chunariya featured in her film ‘Gulaab Gang’ and was composed by Soumik Sen.
