Lionel Messi threatened to leave PSG if club signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United: Report

Looking to find a new club for himself, Cristiano Ronaldo is once again in the news. Despite having joined Manchester United only last season, the Portuguese is on the hunt to find a new project which could help him fight for major titles. As Ronaldo’s search continues, Lionel Messi is making sure that his arch-rival’s new club isn’t Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG have been linked with Ronaldo in the past. However, the 37-year-old has always preferred a different project for himself than what the French giants have been proposing. Though there’s nothing concrete linking Ronaldo with PSG this term, Messi could’ve played a role in preventing PSG from approaching Ronaldo.
As per a report El Nacional, Messi threatened PSG bosses that he would leave the club if they sign Ronaldo from Manchester United.
Though there’s no denying that football fans across the globe would love to see Messi and Ronaldo play in the same team, such a situation isn’t something that the Argentine welcomes.
With Neymar Jr. expected to leave PSG this summer, the club will have a vacant spot in the front three. Theoretically, Ronaldo fits the bill perfectly for PSG as he can play both as a No. 9 and on the left-wing, Messi seems to have his reasons for not wanting such a move to take place.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has been offering his client to a number of clubs, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea. No such talks have been reported between PSG and Mendes as yet.
As far as a sporting prospect is concerned, Ronaldo’s possible transfer to Paris could help the club elevate its status further. Be it the sponsorships, ticket sales and even sporting projects will receive a big boost.
While there’s still time before the summer transfer window shuts, Ronaldo’s transfer to PSG can’t be entirely ruled out. However, the club would need to convince Messi of the move first as the prospect of losing the Argentine isn’t something the bosses would welcome either.
