The 14th round of highest military commander level talks will take place at Chushul-Moldo meeting point on the Chinese side on January 12 morning. The discussions between the two neighbouring countries will focus on resolution of the remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian side is looking forward to constructive dialogue to resolve the balance friction areas, Indian Army officials said.
earlier, the 13th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting was held at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on October 10, 2021. Both the nuclear-powered nations have been entangled ain bitter border standoff since May 2020. Both the countries shave held several rounds of diplomatic and military level talks to defuse the tensions at the LAC. While both countries have pulled back troops from several friction points in eastern Ladakh, the next round of talks will focus on the disengagement from the remaining friction areas.
The 14th round of India and China Corps Commander level military is expected to focus on disengagement in the remaining friction areas like Depsang, Hot Springs and others.
The deliberations will be taking place at a time when Beijing has started construction of a bridge on Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh to which New Delhi has raised objections.
“Government has been monitoring this activity closely. This bridge is being constructed in areas that have been under illegal occupation by China for around 60 years now. As you are well aware India has never accepted such illegal occupation,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi recently said.
Notably, the Indian Army had occupied key heights on the Kailash range on the southern bank in August 2020.
During the earlier rounds of talks, the Indian officials had pointed out that the situation along the LAC had been caused by unilateral attempts of the Chinese side to alter the status quo and in violation of the bilateral agreements.
