Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan get rejected by audience, fail to cross Rs 50 crore mark despite 3 holidays

The horrific run of Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan at the box office has left Bollywood in a state of shock. Both the biggies have failed to touch the Rs 50 crore mark even after 5 days of their release despite there being three major holidays.
Thus, the audience has made it clear that they are just not interested in watching either of the films. While Laal Singh Chaddha raked in a meagre Rs 45.83 crore in 5 days, the collection of Raksha Bandhan is even lower at Rs 34.47 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the latest box office updates of the Aamir and Akshay starrers. For the Advait Chandan directorial, he tweeted, “#LaalSinghChaddha is rejected… #LSC *5-day* total is lower than *Day 1* total of #ThugsOfHindostan [₹ 50.75 cr; #Hindi version], do the math… Thu 11.70 cr [#RakshaBandhan], Fri 7.26 cr, Sat 9 cr, Sun 10 cr, Mon 7.87 cr [#IndependenceDay]. Total: ₹ 45.83 cr. #India biz.”
On the other hand, Taran’s tweet for Aanand L Rai’s social drama read, “#RakshaBandhan is a non-performer… Fails to hit double digits despite multiple holidays… 5-day total is a complete shocker… Thu 8.20 cr [#RakshaBandhan], Fri 6.40 cr, Sat 6.51 cr, Sun 7.05 cr, Mon 6.31 cr [#IndependenceDay]. Total: ₹ 34.47 cr. #India biz.”
Despite enjoying an extended weekend, both Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan failed to go past the opening weekend collection of Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The Anees Bazmee directorial, which released on a non-holiday weekend, raked in Rs 55.96 crore at the box office in its first 3 days. It continues to be Bollywood’s top opening weekend grosser in 2022.
With Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan meeting a disastrous fate at the box office, the Hindi film industry needs to look for answers in order to be revived.
