La Liga: Karim Benzema scores as Real Madrid win 5th game in a row, equal Atletico at top of points table

Frenchman and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema continued his good run, scoring a goal and setting up the two other that his side scored in a 3-1 away win to Eibar on Sunday.

Benzema has been in great touch and scored his fifth goal in 4 matches for the Zinedine Zidane-led side. With the win on Sunday, Real Madrid join Atletico Madrid at the top of the points table with 29 points. However, the Diego Simeone’s side have two games in hand.

Benzema on Sunday got Real Madrid off to a flying start by scoring in the 6th minute of the match. He calmly trapped a chipped pass from Rodrygo and finished it into the Eibar goal.

After that he also set up the other two goals that the defending champions scored. In the 13th minute, he beat a defender by the byline and cut the ball back to the edge of the area and set Luka Modric up, who slam it into the goal with a single touch.

Eibar got back into contention with a long-range strike from Kike Garcia in the 28th minute. However, Real Madrid sealed the points with a Lucas Vazquez goal in stoppage time, created by another fine pass from Benzema, to make it five wins in a row in all competitions.

Eden Hazard’s absence felt by Real Madrid

Madrid were lacking a bit of firepower in attack due to the absence of Eden Hazard and Vinicius Jr, but once again Benzema was happy to do most of the heavy lifting in attack.

The man who Zidane described last week as the best French forward of all time combined superbly with Rodrygo for the opening goal, timing his run to perfection to beat the offside trap before producing an exquisite control and finish.

Benzema showed his more generous side to set up Modric for the second goal and should have scored again moments later when he failed to properly connect with a Modric cross.
