Kolkata Police forms 8-member SIT to probe security breach at Mamata Banerjee’s residence

Two days after a man was caught sneaking into West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat, Kolkata Police  formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the breach.
According to reports, the police have constituted an 8-member SIT to investigate the security breach at Banerjee’s residence.
Earlier on July 3, a trespasser stayed overnight at the residence of West Bengal CM hoodwinking the security personnel.
The police yesterday disclosed the identity of the trespasser while presenting him at a lower court in Kolkata, which sent him to police custody till July 11. The arrested person has been identified as Hafizul Mollah, a resident of Hasnabad in North 24 Parganas district.
Reportedly, the man told the police that he had done so thinking it was the Kolkata Police headquarters. He, could not, however, clearly state why he needed to go to the police headquarters in the dead of the night.
He had scaled a boundary wall of Banerjee’s private residence at 34B Harish Chatterjee Street in Kalighat area of the city at around 1.20 am on Sunday and remained there till morning. The security personnel posted there spotted him at around 8 am on Monday and handed him over to officers of Kalighat police station.
The incident triggered a security scare and questions were raised about how the man went past the Z-Plus security cover that Banerjee gets and entered her private residence premises located in the ‘high secure’ neighbourhood to spend a night there without anyone noticing him.
Police have taken immediate steps to enhance security in and around the CM’s residence.
