KL Rahul will miss another series in 2022 as he hasn’t been included in the squad for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. As per a report, Rahul’s hamstring injury has resurfaced. The vice-captain was the leading contender to lead the Men in Blue in the series but the injury meant that wasn’t in contention for selection.
With the selectors likely to name the squad for Asia Cup 2022 in the next 10 days, all eyes will be on Rahul as he is a key member of the T20I side and the Men in Blue need his services at the event. As per Insidesport, Rahul will have to prove his fitness before the squad announcement.
The report states that the opening batsman will be subjected to fitness test in the coming week. Should he clear the test, he will be an automatic pick for the T20 World Cup as well. As per PTI, no comeback date has been set for Rahul.
“KL Rahul has recovered from COVID-19 but his hamstring injury seems to have resurfaced. He was supposed to be picked for Zimbabwe but now one can’t put a date on his comeback,” a senior BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.
Rahul was slated to make his comeback in the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies. He tested positive for COVID-19 last week and couldn’t fly to West Indies. Rahul has been away from competitive cricket since IPL 2022.
After the T20 league, he was forced to miss the home T20I series against South Africa. He was set to make his T20I captaincy debut in the series. He was also slated to assist Rohit Sharma on the complete UK tour but was forced to miss the series.
In Rahul’s absence, Shikhar Dhawan will continue to lead the ODI team as the selectors have rested many first-choice players.
