Former JD(U) national president RCP Singh said he was keeping “all options open”, including a formal entry into the BJP.
The former Union minister has quit the JD(U) last month after the Nitish Kumar-led party sought an explanation from him over allegations of corruption levelled by some unidentified workers.
On being asked he would like to join the BJP he quipped “why not?. I have all options open.”
The bureaucrat turned politician had to leave his cabinet berth following denial of another term in Rajya Sabha by the JD(U).
Hitting out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he said the de facto leader of the party, “will not become the prime minister even if he were to be reborn seven times”
Singh also slammed over Kumar the latest political u-turn in Bihar that saw the JD(U) leader snapping ties with the BJP and joining hands with the the RJD, Congress and the Left to form “Mahagathbandhan” government in the state.
“…How many more times will he (Nitish Kumar) switch sides? He has already done that four times – in 1994, 2013, 2017 and 2022,” he said.
When asked asked if JD(U) will merge with RJD, he said, “It’s certain. What option do they have?”
The senior leader also brushed off JD(U)’s allegations that he had become a mole of the BJP and acted against the Nitish Kumar party’s interests at saffron party’s behest in the last Assembly polls of 2020.
Last year, Singh accepted a cabinet berth at the Centre without the consent of Kumar, causing a rift between the two. The rumblings became evident soon as Singh was asked to step down form the party chief’s post.
The JD(U) had earlier issued notice to Singh, alleging that “huge property” has been amassed between 2013 and 2022 in his and his family members’ name.
Singh, however, did not respond to the notice and resigned from the party.
“The allegations are a conspiracy by those who envied my getting inducted into the Union cabinet. I would like to tell them that those living in glass houses must not hurl stones at others. I also hereby give up my primary membership of the party,” he had said.
