Karthikeya 2’s Nikhil Siddhartha on North v/s South debate: ‘Making good films is important than battling…’

Karthikeya 2 has been an absolute hit and Nikhil Siddhartha has managed to win hearts over with his performance. The Telugu mystery-action adventure did well at the box office and did in fact, manage to wow everyone. The movie recently began streaming on OTT and has been in the news once again.
talking to Nikhil about all the love that’s come the film’s way and how it has managed to create all the buzz it has, he told us, “We had a very conscious attempt that we wanted to make this a national project from the beginning, all about Lord Shri Krishna, and we know that he has gotten fans everywhere, being the most popular Gods ever, so we always thought that this needed to reach a large section of the audience but we never knew it was going to be received so well.”
He added, “Karthikeya was a small movie, and then, we thought of making the film on Dwarka, and the legacy of Lord Shri Krishna, we thought a 100% this film needs to release in Hindi also, and we had actors like Anupam Kher ji, among others, to take this film closer to the audiences, and we were supported by producers and distributors. I think it comes from the production house of The Kashmir Files, maybe that also helped as they already had a hit on their hands.”
We also spoke to him about where does he stand on the entire North-South debate, pan-Indian films, among others. After having a laugh, he said, “I am such a kind of guy, I have been in love with all kinds of cinema, be it Andaz Apna Apna, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I don’t even know how many times I have seen those films, but at the same time, Tamil films of Rajinikanth sir, Malayalam films, I am a film lover. I think people have become film lovers and all these debates that happen, it is just a very small section of people.”
Nikhil further added, “If I get to know that there’s a fantastic film in Hindu that’s coming in Telugu, I watch it, and people watch it. If a good Telugu film is made, everyone will watch it. I think making good films is important, more than battling over who is what, where, or which language is great. I think we are one country and I am so glad that after cricket, movies are becoming pan-Indian, and I am very happy that I am an actor in this era, in a generation where people are so welcoming of all languages. Brahmastra did fantastically in Telugu as well, if a film is good, people will watch and those fighting about it, never come to the theatres.”
Karthikeya 2 is directed by Chandoo Mondeti and released first on August 12, 2022.
