Karnataka MLA MP Renukacharya has urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Primary and Secondary Education Minister to ban madrasas because anti-national lessons are being taught there.
The Honnali MLA, who is also Bommai’s political secretary, further said that madrasas should be banned or made to teach the syllabus what we teach in other schools.
Accusing the Congress of fanning Hijab issue, Renukacharya asked if vote bank is more important to the grand old party.
‘Madrasas instigate innocent kids’
Asking the Congress why madrasas are needed in the country, the MLA claimed that they instigate innocent kids.
He also claimed that in future, the madrasas students may turn against their country and never say “Bharat Mata ki Jai”.
He also accused Popular Front of India, Social Democratic Party of India and Congress elders Zameer Ahmed Khan and UT Khader of creating Hijab issue
“Some anti-national orgs have called for Karnataka bandh. Can government tolerate this? Is this Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Islamic country? We will not tolerate this. Congress leaders defended this on floor of the House,” he added.
Hijab row erupted in January
The Hijab row erupted in January this year when the Government PU College in Udupi allegedly barred six girls wearing the Hijab from entering. After this, the girls sat in protest outside college over being denied entry.
After this, boys of several colleges in Udupi started attending classes wearing saffron scarves. This protest spread to other parts of the state as well leading to protests and agitations in several places in Karnataka.
Later, a bench of Karnataka High Court termed uniform a reasonable restriction that students could not object to and dismissed various petitions challenging a ban on Hijab in educational institutions, saying they are without merit.
