Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 17: Rishab Shetty’s film holds strong amid Pre-Diwali season

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has firmly established itself as a blockbuster, winning praise for both its gripping plot and stellar performances. Serving as both director and lead actor, Shetty has managed to meet the high expectations set by the prequel, Kantara.

The film has been dominating the box office for several weeks now and continues to hold a strong command, maintaining its momentum and audience pull ahead of the Diwali festivities.

Kantara Chapter 1 box office collection day 17:

According to early estimates, Kantara Chapter 1 collected Rs. 12.50 crore on its third Saturday, taking its total earnings to Rs. 506.25 crore.

In the Hindi belt, Kantara Chapter 1 saw slower growth, earning Rs. 3.75 crore on its third Saturday and bringing its Hindi total to Rs. 160.75 crore. The smaller increase is likely due to pre-Diwali celebrations, but the film is still expected to do well against upcoming releases like Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, and could reach Rs. 180–200 crore in the Hindi market.

Although it didn’t match the huge success of films like Baahubali 2, KGF Chapter 2, or Pushpa 2, Kantara Chapter 1has performed better than expected and is on track to beat the lifetime collections of Raid 2, Sitaare Zameen Par, Housefull 5, and War 2. Even with a competing release, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, it stayed ahead at the box office.

About Kantara Chapter 1

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the prequel explores the mythological origins of the story told in Kantara. Set ten centuries before the events of the first film, it features Shetty in a new role alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.

Rishab has essayed the role of Berme alongside Rukmini Vasanth as Kanakavathi, and Gulshan Devaiah as Kulashekara. The film’s visual is backed by the powerful cinematic vision of Arvind S. Kashyap as cinematographer and the evocative music of B. Ajaneesh Loknath, whose compositions in the first film left audiences spellbound. It is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films.
