‘Kannadigas prefer progressive politics’: Congress hits back at BJP MLA for comparing Muslims to Tipu Sultan

A day after Karnataka BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal compared Muslims to Tipu Sultan, Congress MLA Priyank Kharge  hit back at the saffron party saying “Kannadigas prefer progressive politics”.
He also suggested that the BJP is resorting to such politics as the charisma of PM Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda is “not working” in Karnataka.
Reacting to Yatnal’s comments, Kharge said, “It is not right to bring this kind of narrative into the politics of the state. We’re Kannadigas & we prefer progressive politics. You need to talk about development activities& then get votes.”
“CM Bommai, his cabinet and the entire BJP unit have lost credibility. The charisma of PM Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda is not working here and hence they are resorting to such things,” he added.
Yesterday, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal stoked a controversy when he compared Muslim voters in the state to 18th century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan.
Addressing a rally in Vijayapura, the BJP MLA said, “”All MLAs ask me, in your constituency there are one lakh Tipu Sultans (Muslim votes) how a Shivaji Maharaj descendant won from Bijapur. Going forward in Bijapur, none of the followers of Tipu Sultan will win.”
“Even by mistake you should not cast your votes for Muslims,” he added.
