Joe Biden on Saturday won the US presidential race defeating incumbent Donald Trump by a heft margin of electoral votes. Biden’s victory was confirmed after he claimed Pennsylvania. The Democrat will become the 46th President of the United States.
Several media outlets in the US called the race in Biden’s favour as he gained an unassailable lead after claiming Pennsylvania.
The Democrat was leading the presidential race with 264 electoral votes and needed just six more to reach the majority mark. He took his tally to 284 after securing 20 electoral votes of Pennsylvania.
In an official statement, Donald Trump said, “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country.”
“The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a president for all Americans – whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me,” he added.
Donald Trump responded to Biden’s announcement calling it a “false” declaration of victory.
“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed,” Trump said in a statement.
“The simple fact is this election is far from over.”
According to the current trends, Joe Biden has 284 electoral votes to his name while Donald Trump is trailing with 214 votes.
Three states – Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina – are yet to confirm a winner. Biden is leading in Georgia and Nevada while Trump has a solid lead in North Carolina.
