Jet Airways to be full-service airline with economy class competing at LCC fare levels

New-appointed Jet Airways CEO Sanjiv Kapoor has shed some light on the carrier’s plan to make a comeback in the market with a hybrid approach. Kapoor also pointed out that a detailed plan will not be revealed at this stage.
Explaining what the term ‘hybrid’ means, Kapoor said, “Let’s just say it means different things to different people.” While adding that they will not unveil their product and service strategy in detail at this stage, Kapoor mentioned that Jet will be a “full-service airline with an economy class that can compete at LCC fare levels.”
The airline which might restart operations by October 2022, will be “a modern full-service airline (FSC), a single brand.” Kapoor added that no-frills etc. are assumptions being made basis the phrase “hybrid”.
While there’s still might be some waiting to understand Jet’s strategy, Kapoor did state that the desired product and service attributes change over time. “One has to evolve with the times,” he added.
Jet 2.0
Kapoor, in a recent interview with ET Now, said that Jet Airways’ Air Operator Permit (AOP) approval will come by the end of April. “It is a very complicated, lengthy and stringent process and we’re in the final stages now. We want to make sure that all the pieces are in place. We expect a few more months after the Air Operator Permit (AOP) to be ready to restart operations,” he said.
He further added we have a staff of 200 working exclusively on getting Jet flying again. Jet 2.0 will use Boeing 737 Next Generation (737NG), a narrow-body type aircraft powered by 2 jet engines, for the purpose of proving flight. However, all options are on the table.
The Jalan Kalrock consortium emerged as the winner of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)-monitored insolvency and resolution process in June 2021, earlier said the airline will begin operations in the first quarter of 2022.
