After Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah also got vaccinated against COVID-19 on Tuesday (May 11). Bumrah received his first jab of COVID-19 vaccine ahead of Team India’s departure to England for the World Test Championship (WTC) final followed by the Test series against England.
Bumrah took to social media to share a picture of himself getting vaccinated and urged others to stay safe as India continues to battle the raging pandemic which has wreaked havoc across all states. “Vaccinated. Please stay safe everyone,” Bumrah wrote on Twitter.
On Monday, Indian skipper Kohli also received his first jab of the vaccine and had urged others to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The likes of Deepak Chahar, Ishant Sharma, and several other members of the Indian cricket team have also received their first jab of the vaccine.
In these testing times, vaccination remains the biggest weapon against the virus which is claiming the lives of thousands on a daily basis while infecting lakhs of people.
The Indian cricketers are getting vaccinated ahead of their departure to England where they will lock horns with New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship and play a five-match Test series against Joe Root & Co. BCCI has already announced the squad for the tour and Bumrah has returned after a break during the England series at home earlier this year.
Bumrah had opted for a break to get married during the England series but will be making a comeback and spearheading India’s pace attack in the WTC final against New Zealand in Southampton. The final will kick off on June 18 at the Rose Bowl. Apart from Bumrah, the likes of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj will constitute India’s formidable pace attack for the summit clash.
