Jasprit Bumrah got special mention at Coldplay’s concert in Mumbai on Saturday, from frontman Chris Martin. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause as Martin humorously mentioned that he would have to pause the concert since Bumrah wanted to bowl at him.
“Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage,” he said.
“He says he needs to bowl at me now.”
He further said: We’ll ask him to wait 15 minutes.”
Champion Bumrah, who earned a place on India’s team for the upcoming Champions Trophy tournament, has remained stellar bowling form, in particular during Australia’s recent tests. The Indian fast bowler took 32 wickets and consolidated his position alongside the most ferocious bowlers anywhere in the globe. He’s the fourth speediest player over 200 Tests, and only the first on the list as he achieved so with an average below 20 when bowling.
Nevertheless, Bumrah’s appearance at Sydney will be cut short after suffering with back spasms on Day 2. His fielding ended prematurely when he retired for scans on the same.
Still, it is likely to be a key bowler who will strengthen the Indian bowling group for the one-day Champions Trophy to be played next month.
