In a major breakthrough, the security forces arrested a hybrid terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Kreeri area of Baramulla along with arms and ammunitions.
“Joint parties of Police and Army 29 RR apprehended one hybrid terrorist of LeT outfit in Kreeri area of Baramulla along with arms and ammunitions. One pistol, one pistol magazine, and 7 rounds of pistol ammunition were recovered from him,” ANI quoted the police as saying.
The terrorist, identified as Mohammad Iqbal Bhat, a resident of Tilgam Payeen, they said.
“The successful apprehension of the hybrid terrorist has evaded major terror plots and busted the module responsible for various recent attacks on PRI members and non-locals in addition the terrorist was actively involved in providing chemicals and other materials for carrying out an IED attack on National Highway between Narbal and Renji,” the police added.
Earlier on Wednesday, two terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) surrendered before the security forces after their parents made an emotional appeal asking them to drop their weapons in Kulgam.
“An encounter started at the Hadigam area of Kulgam in the morning where two terrorists had surrendered upon appeal by parents and police,” ANI quoted officials as saying. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were recovered from them, they added.
Following the encounter, the families of both terrorists were brought to the encounter site to appeal for their surrender. Repeated surrender appeals were made by the parents and security forces till morning. Both terrorists finally surrendered by laying down their arms. They were subsequently handed over to Police. Warlike stores were also recovered from their possession.
