Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu targeted the newly-elected AAP government of Bhagwant Mann, saying he has never seen such anarchy in the state where no one is afraid of law and order. “I have never seen such anarchy in Punjab. No one is afraid of law and order. It’s jungle raj. Cold-blooded murders are being committed in broad daylight. There should be no priority other than law and order and peace in the state,” Sidhu was quoted as saying by ANI.
Later, Sidhu said he visited the family of Mangat Ram, who was murdered at his doorstep. “Series of political murders in Punjab. Will leave no stone unturned until the justice is delivered. Law & order in Punjab at its lowest. Another man shot in Phagwara, 5 Killed in Gurdaspur,” he said. Ram was party’s ward president from Ludhiana.
In the last few days, the Congress leader has shared a number of incidents claiming attack on party leaders in Punjab.
On Saturday, he said there was complete lawlessness in Punjab as gang wars remained unchecked. “25 people open fire at Karaj Singh, at Maboke Village in Ferozpur, killing him on the spot… There is no fear of law… Government in deep slumber…,” he tweeted.
A day before this, Sidhu put out two tweets. In one tweet, he said he was extremely concerned about escalating law and order situation in Punjab. “Another Murder in broad daylight in a Mela in Moga. Complete inaction & lack of seriousness by the Govt. is baffling,” he said.
In another tweet, he wrote: “When Rome was burning, Nero was playing his flute!
Atrocities keep increasing on Congress workers. The Politics of fear replacing Politics of hope. Within a few days of taking reins of State, so called AAP volunteers taking law in their hands while the govt plays mute spectator.”
The AAP came to power with overwhelming majority in the recent assembly elections. It replaced the Congress government which was in power from 2017 to 2022.
On April 1, Sidhu had shared a video in which a group of people can be seen hitting a person who is lying on roadside. “If it happens in Delhi you call it Vandalism. Look what is happening in Punjab… Another Congress worker brutally beaten in Sanaur. Law & order at a very low ebb,” he directed the tweet to AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Referring to the AAP’s win in Punjab, the Congress leader said change is not necessarily progress. “This is not badlaav (change) that Punjab signed up for. Murders, car thefts at Gunpoint, Snatching, Hooliganism & Kabza’s…Uncontrolled AAP workers fulfilling selfish motives… Poles apart from S. Bhagat Singh’s ideology of selflessness and sacrifice,” Sidhu tweeted.
