Given the popularity of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the action has shifted to Day 3 – where names will be officially announced for all four packages. Day 2 saw the broadcast and digital rights being sold for Rs 44, 075 crores for 410 matches which means the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will earn Rs 107.5 crore for each IPL match in the next five-year cycle through TV and streaming rights.
The action on Day 2 stopped around 6 pm on June 13 while the bidding for Package C was underway. The BCCI had kept the base price for Package A at Rs 48 crores while the base price for digital rights were kept at Rs 33 crore.
Apart from packages A and B, which were for broadcast and digital for the Indian region, there are two more packages – package C, which has 18-game non-exclusive special matches (base price of Rs 11 crore) and package D, which is rest of the world rights (base price of Rs 3 crore)
Star India won the IPL rights for 2017-22 cycle, with a winning bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore for both TV and digital in September 2017.
Previously, Sony Pictures Network won the IPL TV media rights for a period of 10 years during the inception of the tournament with a bid of Rs 8,200 crore.
While names will officially be announced on June 14, it has been reported that two different companies have bagged the rights for TV and digital.
