Former India skipper MS Dhoni has not confirmed whether he will be available for IPL 2025, according to a report in The Indian Express.
Although many reports indicate that CSK would retain Dhoni irrespective of retention rules, a clear availability remains unknown.
Uncertainty Looms Over MS Dhoni’s Retention
This means that the mega auction for IPL 2025 will take place later in the year and such auctions usually throw up some interesting team line-ups though perhaps pretty complex on the retention front.
“We are yet to hear from him. Once the BCCI makes a formal decision on the number of retentions, we will have a clear picture,” CSK sources told The Indian Express.
The BCCI will allow retention of up to five players before the mega auction, as is being claimed by some reports, though there would not be any Right to Match option this time around.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction
It would be a significant advantage to the Mumbai Indians if the five-player retention rule were to come in, in which they could retain some of those star players such as Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya.
Sources within the BCCI confirmed IANS that the IPL 2025 mega auction is likely to take place in the last week of November or first week of December. The board has assured making rules and regulation of the auction where it is due to come about in days to come.
“IPL 2025 auction will take place in November end or early December this year. Rules of it will be out in couple of days,” BCCI sources told IANS.
