Parthiv Patel, a former India wicket-keeper batter, is set to join the support staff of Gujarat Titans. According to sources, Parthiv will be involved in various roles under Ashish Nehra, including being an assistant coach. He will also be one of the talent spotters for the team.
Parthiv’s Coaching Experience
Parthiv has accepted the IPL coaching role following his retirement in 2020. Even after the end of his playing career, he had also served as a talent scout for three seasons with the Mumbai Indians, whose tenure he ended in 2023.
A Glamorous Playing Career
In the IPL, Parthiv Patel was one of the legends to play for six franchises between 2008 and 2019, at the age of 39. He did not do too poorly in winning the title, either, as he won three titles with his franchises – once with the Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and twice with the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017. And in his 139 matches, Parthiv Patel scored more than 2,848 runs mostly as an opener, maintaining a strike rate of over 120 throughout his playing career.
The eight-time international-standard players in the franchise will include Parthiv as part of the think tank for Gujarat Titans, who finished as lowly seventh in the 2024 season after consecutively bagging the title in 2022 and running up to be runners-up in 2023. The team consists of head coach Ashish Nehra, director of cricket Vikram Solanki, and assistant coach Aashish Kapoor.
One of them is former South Africa batter Gary Kirsten, who had an equal share of responsibility with Nehra between 2022 and 2024, who resigned before IPL 2024 to take the responsibility of Pakistan’s white-ball coach.
Now it is into the season where Gujarat Titans will try to add more trophies to the collection as they approach the new season. Noted ex-representative Parthiv Patel will be a vital resource to rely on for them in pursuit of glory in IPL 2025.
He also served as a batting coach for MI Emirates during the inaugural season of ILT20 in 2023. Parthiv will be the second former Indian wicket-keeper, following Dinesh Karthik at Royal Challengers Bangalore, who will join an IPL team’s coaching staff before the 2025 season.
