IPL 2022 closing ceremony: BCCI breaks Guinness world record; AR Rahman, Ranveer Singh dazzle crowd

As cricket fans around the world prepare to see who will lift the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, the crowd at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium was entertained by a stunning closing ceremony ahead of the summit clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri took the mic and hosted the memorable ceremony to big cheers across the ground. Shastri made a huge announcement at the start of the ceremony to declare that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has broken the Guinness record for the largest sports jersey ever with a size of 66/42 meters.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah received the award. The record-jersey was kept near the middle of the ground and had the logos of all 10 teams that participated in the 2022 edition.
Post the felicitation, popular Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh took center stage and dazzled the crowd with a stunning dance performance. Ranveer’s performance brought the capacity crowd in Ahmedabad to it’s feet.
Ranveer’s brilliance was followed by legendary singer AR Rahman giving a pperformances for the ages with a sizzling renditions of some of his greatest hits like ‘Vande Mantram’, ‘Jai Ho’, and ‘Rang de Basanti.’
Towards the end of the performance, Ranveer took a lap of the stadium and joined Rahman on the stage to bring the biggest cheers of the evening. The ceremony celebrated 75 years of India’s independence and 15 years of the IPL.
The action now moves towards cricketing action as RR and GT prepare to take field. RR skipper Sanju Samson has won the toss and decided to bat first. The 2008 champions are looking to win the title for the second time in history. Meanwhile, GT have made the final on their first attempt and will look to lift the trophy in front of their home crowd.
