Just as the Indian Women’s Cricket team arrived back in the country after securing a historic 3-0 whitewash of England away from home, Team India’s wicket-keeper batter Taniyaa Bhatia has made a sensational claim and revealed she was the victim of a robbery in the United Kingdom (UK).
Taniyaa stated that someone stole her bag which contained various valuables such as cash, cards, watches, and jewellery. She revealed this incident happened inside their hotel room at the Marriott in London and called the place an ‘unsafe’ one.
“Shocked and disappointed at Marriot Hotel London Maida Vale management; someone walked into my personal room and stole my bag with cash, cards, watches and jewellery during my recent stay as a part of Indian Women’s Cricket team. @MarriottBonvoy @Marriott. So unsafe,” she said
She further asked for an investigation in the matter and hoped for a quick resolution. She called the lack of security at the England Cricket Board’s (ECB) prefered hotel as astounding. “Hoping for a quick investigation and resolution of this matter. Such lack of security at @ECB_cricket ‘s preferred hotel partner is astounding. Hope they will take cognisance as well,” added Taniyaa.
Following their participation at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham and some stars of the Women in Blue featuring in the Hundred, the Indian women’s cricket team played 3 T20Is and 3 ODIS. England won the T20I series 2-1 before India produced a dominant performance in the ODIs and won all three games.
Taniyaa was part of both squads but did not play a single game. Richa Ghosh was India’s prefered wicket-keeper in the T20Is while Yastika Bhatia took the gloves in the ODIs. Taniyaa has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming 2022 Asia Cup but is part of the reserves.
