Cristiano Ronaldo achieved another massive career landmark after he scored the winning goal in Manchester United’s gritty 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park. By virtue of the vital effort, Ronaldo completed an incredible 700 career goals.
The 38-year-old was once again named on the bench by Erik Ten Hag. However, a first-half injury to Anthony Martial led to Ronaldo entering the game early. The Portuguese footballing legend made the most of his chance and scored his first Premier League goal of the season after an assist from new signing and ex-Real Madrid teammate Casemiro.
On Ronaldo’s incredible record, the world sporting fraternity hailed him. Even Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli lavished praise on the 38-year-old for his stunning achievement. Commenting on Ronaldo’s post; Kohli wrote “GOAT 700.” Ronaldo took to the photo-sharing app after United’s big victory to hail his team’s performance. “Great win guys! Another step in the right direction! #WeStandUnited.”
The win helped United bounce back strongly after their humiliating 6-3 defeat to arch-rivals Manchester City last week. Ten Hag’s men have climbed up to fifth place with the win being just one point Chelsea for a place in the elusive top four.
Ronaldo has had a forgettable start to the season and has started just one of the Red Devils’ eight league games this season. So far his only goal in the current campaign came from the penalty spot in United’s Europa League win away to FC Sheriff. The five-time Ballon D’or winner has played from the start in all three games for United in the continental competition.
Talking about Kohli, he is currently with the Indian team in Australia for the 2022 T20 World Cup. The ex-Indian skipper was rested for the team’s first warm-up match on Monday (October 10) against Western Australia at the WACA Stadium in Perth.
