India successfully test-fires phase II of interceptor AD-1 missile with large kill altitude bracket

India  successfully conducted maiden flight test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile with large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. The flight test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements.
AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles and aircraft. It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with an indigenously-developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.
According to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), all sub-systems performed as per expectation during the flight test and the same was validated by the data captured by a number of range sensors, including radar, telemetry and electro-optical tracking stations deployed to capture the flight data.
Last month, India successfully test-fired indigenously-developed new generation medium-range ballistic missile Agni Prime from the Odisha coast.
The sleek missile was test fired from a mobile launcher from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island. The solid-fuelled canisterised missile met all mission parameter during the test.
All its navigation was tracked and monitored by radars and telemetry equipment positioned along various points. The missile’s stroke range is between 1,000 km and 2,000 km.
The last trial of the missile was conducted on December 18 last year from the same base, which was also successful.
