India another shipment of 3000 MTs of wheat to Afghanistan via the Pakistani land route as part of its humanitarian assistance to Afghan people who have been reeling under food shortage.
With this, India has successfully completed the shipment of 33,500 MTs of wheat in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP).
“India sent another shipment of 3000 MTs of wheat to Afghanistan. India has successfully completed the shipment of 33,500 MTs of wheat in partnership with WFP. In May, another consignment of 2,000 MTs of wheat as humanitarian assistance from the Government of India (GoI) was dispatched via the Attari-Wagah border,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
India had on Thursday announced that a technical team has been deployed to the Embassy in Kabul to coordinate the efforts of stakeholders for the delivery of humanitarian aid.
“In order to closely monitor and coordinate the efforts of various stakeholders for the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance and in continuation of our engagement with the Afghan people, an Indian technical team has reached Kabul today and has been deployed in our Embassy there,” the MEA said in a release.
On February 12, the Indian government signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Food Programme for the distribution of wheat within Afghanistan.
India has already supplied 500,000 doses of Covaxin vaccines and 13 tonnes of essential lifesaving medicines to Afghanistan. India has been pitching for providing unimpeded humanitarian aid to Afghanistan to address the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the country.
