IND vs ZIM: Shubman Gill breaks century drought, registers maiden international ton of his career in 3rd ODI

More than three years after making his debut in international cricket, Shubman Gill has finally registered the first century of his international career. Gill completed the landmark in the ongoing third ODI game between India and Zimbabwe at the Harare Cricket Ground.
With KL Rahul choosing to open the batting, Gill was demoted to the number three position once again. However, the right-hander looked extremely comfortable in the new role and attacked the host bowling attack with ease. The 22-year-old reached the landmark in just 82 balls.
Over the course of his innings, he put up a massive 140-run stand with Ishan Kishan which has helped put India on path to a massive total on the board after they won the toss and chose to bat first. Kishan scored a half-century before he was run-out.
Gill has made his debut in international cricket in an ODI game in New Zealand in 2019. Coming into this game, he had an incredible record in ODI cricket with 369 runs in eight matches at an average of 61.50 with three half-centuries. Last month, he was left stranded on 98 not-out during the third ODI between India and West Indies in Port of Spain when rain brought an early stop to play.
Gill’s major achievements in international cricket have come in Test cricket. Since his debut in the Boxing Day Test in 2020 against Australia, he has played 11 Tests in which he has four half-centuries. Gill had famously scored a knock of 91 in the fourth innings of India’s historic victory at the Gabba.
Talking about the match, India are set to put a total of close to 300 on the board. The Men in Blue got a 63-run opening stand with Dhawan scoring 40 runs and Rahul making 30. India won the first two games by margins of 10 and 5 wickets respectively.
