Team India was hit with a big blow coming into the ODI series against West Indies after Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the first two ODIs of the three-match series. Jadeja is missing out on action as he suffered a right knee injury which is being monitored by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team.
Jadeja’s absence has come as a big blow to Team India as he was the vice-captain of the team. In Jadeja’s absence, the Men in Blue have named Shreyas Iyer as the new vice-captain of the side.
Talking about Jadeja’s injury, BCCI confirmed his absence from the first two games. A call on his fitness for the third ODI will be taken at a later date. “Team India all-rounder Mr. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained an injury to his right knee and has been ruled out of the first two ODIs against West Indies. The BCCI Medical team is monitoring his progress and a decision on his participation in the third ODI will be taken accordingly,” BCCI wrote in an official statement.
Talking about the match, West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first. Sanju Samson has been named India’s wicket-keeper with Ishan Kishan not finding a place in the playing XI. Shubman Gill will open the batting alongside Dhawan as Ruturaj Gaikwad also missed out.
From the last ODI against England on Sunday (July 17); Gill, Iyer, Samson, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur have replaced Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami in the playing XI.
