At a time when Rohit Sharma’s nine-year-old tweet is doing the rounds on social media, Indian pacer Deepak Chahar has also garnered the attention of the Team India fans by sharing a hilarious post. Star pacer Chahar has expressed his desire of opening the innings with the newly appointed captain in the 1st T20I between New Zealand and Team India on Wednesday. Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium will host the series opener between the two teams.
After a forgetful show in the 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, a fresh start in the shortest format will be the mantra for newly appointed skipper Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid as Team India hosts Kane Williamson-less New Zealand for three-match T20I series. Taking to Twitter ahead of the 1st T20I between the two sides, pace ace Chahar shared a photo featuring skipper Rohit from one of India’s training sessions.
“All set to open the innings at my home ground tonight,” Chahar captioned his post on the microblogging site. For the unversed, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star plays domestic cricket for Rajasthan. Chahar’s tweet soon became the talk of the town and the post has already garnered over 5k likes on Twitter. In the absence of pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur, Chahar is tipped to lead the pace attack of the Rohit-led side alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Speed merchants Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan and Mohammed Siraj are also expected to feature in the three-match T20I series between India and New Zealand. In the absence of batting icon Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya; batters Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad can find a place in the playing XI of the Rohit-led side.
Speaking ahead of the T20I series opener, skipper Rohit had highlighted the importance of grooming every youngster in the Indian squad. “I think it is important to you know groom everyone. I understand the importance of a bowling all-rounder but you know, keeping one particular spot in focus is not the way forward. We just have to look at entire squad we have and how we can fit in the players and how we can be effective as a team,” Rohit said in a press conference.
